HISTORY OF
THOMAS ALLEN, INC.
In 1976 a company was formed under the corporate name, A.I.D. Homes, Inc., an acronym that stood for “Alternatives for Independent Development.” It was the original goal of this company to provide residential apartment training/living services to higher functioning adults with developmental disabilities. During the succeeding years, this company has grown to where a wide range of services is provided to children and adults with developmental disabilities in the seven county metro areas and several counties of Minnesota. On January 1, 1987 the corporate name was changed to Thomas Allen, Incorporated (TAI). This name change is derived from the combined middle names of the owners, James Thomas Perron and David Allen Peterman.
Thomas Allen, Inc. currently provides a variety of services. These services are fully described in the Services section of this web site. The services include:
- Foster Care with Supported Living Services (MR/RC Waiver)
- Foster Care with Independent Living Services (CADI Waiver)
- ICF/MR (Intensive Care Facility for persons with Mental Retardation)
- Semi-Independent Living Services for persons with developmental disabilities
- Independent Living Services for persons on the CADI or TBI waiver
- In-Home Family Support Services for persons with developmental disabilities
- Case Management
- Community Employment
- Public Training
- Guardianship and Conservatorship
